Local Roots Freedom Project
Our Commitment to Protecting the Vulnerable and Strengthening Communities
At Local Roots, our work has always been about more than landscaping. We believe outdoor spaces create stability, beauty, and belonging and those values guide how we care for our team, our clients, and our community.
The Local Roots Freedom Project is our long-term commitment to support the fight against human trafficking and help restore safety, dignity, and opportunity to those who need it most. This initiative reflects who we are at our core: people centered, purpose driven, and rooted in creating real impact.
Why the Freedom Project Exists
Human trafficking affects families and communities both globally and right here in Pittsburgh. Many victims do not have access to safety, resources, or support systems. As a company built on care and craftsmanship, we believe our success should do more than benefit our business — it should help create freedom and stability for others.
The Freedom Project is our pledge to use our growth to fuel rescue, restoration, and long-term justice for vulnerable people.
How the Freedom Project Works
We partner with a Fidelity donor-advised fund to ensure transparency, consistency, and long-term sustainability. Here’s what this commitment looks like:
Annual Giving
Every year, 1% of Local Roots profit is contributed to the Freedom Project. As we grow, so does our impact.
Team Engagement
Our crew and staff participate in volunteer efforts, awareness-building, and employee bonus-matching initiatives that directly support anti-trafficking work.
Long-Term Mission
We are committed to a 10-year goal of raising $1,000,000 to support rescue and restoration efforts. Based on partner data, this level of giving is expected to help save approximately 2,000 lives.
Who We Support
International Justice Mission (IJM)
Focus areas: The Philippines and Central America
Why: These regions directly connect to many of our H2B team members and virtual assistants. IJM leads the global fight against human trafficking through rescue operations, strengthening justice systems, survivor care, and long-term protection.
Living in Liberty (Pittsburgh)
Why: Trafficking affects our own city. Living in Liberty provides street outreach, safe housing, practical resources, and long-term restoration programs for survivors right here in Western PA.
By supporting both international and local partners, we create a deep and meaningful impact.
